Self Portrait - Completed on 5/2/97
This painting took me 4 months to complete.

Created nearly 10 years ago, this was the outcome of me trying to paint myself. I was inspired by Van Gogh's self portrait. The thought of painting myself exactly scared me. I was not confident in my abilities to paint in a realistic style. I did not think I was good enough nor handsome enough to paint. I started to burn up with a visual, deciding to paint an abstract visual of myself. I started thinking of personal goals -- owning a 1964 Impala. I thought that if I was reincarnated into a car, it would have to be this. As I started to work on the painting, my mind drifted and eventually all the swirls of the dream came into focus. It would be a dream come true to own the car. The dream became reality 4 years later.
